Baby Girl’s Nursery – Life and Home Update

It’s been a minute since I updated my blog…. which always seems to be the case when I find myself here!  Life has been crazy interesting over the past 9ish months, and it’s about to get even more interesting.  We are expecting our 3rd child, a baby girl, in 2 weeks!  Our other children are 12 and almost 15, so to say we’ve been out of the baby stage for awhile is an understatement!  Although photographing so many newborns and babies has definitely kept me comfortable with baby care, I anticipate that the lack of sleep may be more of a challenge!  In any case, after the initial shock wore off, the one thing I was most excited about preparing was her room.  Thankfully, we did already have a 4 bedroom home, even though one of those bedrooms was serving as my office.  It was the one room in our house that I had completely neglected.  It was a catch all for ALL of the crap and extra stuff that I needed to purge or just didn’t feel like had a place elsewhere.  Honestly, the thought of dealing with going through all of the stuff was paralyzing.  It wasn’t an inspiring work space or somewhere I loved to be, but it served it’s purpose for 8 years!  It’s taken a lot of shuffling, purging, and cleaning throughout the entire house, but I now have a work space in our bonus room that I love!

I knew that I had to get through the busy fall and holiday season before I could fully concentrate on getting anything done in the nursery, so I just continued in the chaos for a long while.  People kept asking if we had her room ready, and I would just laugh, but I knew we’d get there eventually. Finally in February, I had time to focus on getting it all taken care of!  I have been pulling pieces together for months, but didn’t actually have any of it in my house.  I bought a rug, borrowed a crib, ordered a dresser, had a friend that had a rocker like I wanted, and started picking up other things along the way.  Keep in mind that I had not seen any of it together until about 2 weeks ago.  Now, a room that was my least favorite….that I actually sometimes locked the door to when we had company so no one wandered in there by accident, has become one of my favorite in the house.  My 12 year old daughter Claire and I have had so much fun pulling this altogether and making it exactly what we wanted for this, yet to be named, baby girl!  I still can’t believe there’s actually going to be a baby at our house, but her room is ready, even if my brain isn’t jut yet! Naturally, I had to take some photos to document the room and I’m including one embarrassing before photo to give you an idea of just how far the room has come.  I’m sure once she’s actually here, things won’t be as clean and we’ll have the baby gear scattered everywhere, despite my best efforts to only have the bare minimum of baby stuff this time around!!  Thanks for looking around!  The next post may be of baby girl!!!

The before…yikes

And the after…

Our dog, Percy, is more than just a little confused about what is happening in this room.  I’ve always worked in this room since we’ve had him and it’s been our daily routine to hang out in here together.  Now that it’s full of all the baby things, we’ve been keeping the door shut so he doesn’t eat the toys!  Every time the door is open, he makes himself right at home!  Thankfully, only one teether has fallen victim to him so far, but I’m sure that won’t be the last one!
